Interpol Set August Release for ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’, Share Two Songs

Interpol return with a new album on Partisan, featuring a rare vocal turn from guitarist Daniel Kessler, and a North American tour to follow.

Interpol will release their eighth studio album, This Mirror Weighs a Ton, on August 28 through Partisan Records, their first for the label. The announcement comes with two tracks: the title song and “See Out Loud.” On the latter, guitarist Daniel Kessler takes a rare lead vocal — his first since “PDA” on 2002’s Turn On the Bright Lights.

The album was produced by Andrew Wyatt at his Manhattan studio and mixed by David Fridmann. Kessler described the title track’s creation as a moment of surprise, recalling how Wyatt’s sound design and Paul Banks’ spontaneous vocal transformed something he’d assumed would stay instrumental. Wyatt and Fridmann’s involvement signals a production approach distinct from the band’s recent work with Flood and Moulder on 2022’s The Other Side of Make-Believe.

Interpol begins a North American tour in late July, with dates extending into the fall. The new material arrives two decades into a career that has held a consistent core while slowly shifting its internal dynamics. Kessler’s return to the mic is a small but deliberate break from routine, and the album’s title suggests a reflective, possibly self-aware set of songs.
