The band’s first album in six years moves from late June to July 24, while an October date at Flushing Meadows Corona Park lines up formidable support.
The Strokes have delayed the release of Reality Awaits, their first album in six years, by four weeks. Originally scheduled for June 26, the record now arrives July 24, according to a press release issued today. No reason was given for the shift.
Offsetting the wait, the band announced a hometown concert on October 2 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. Support comes from Beach House, TV on the Radio, and Fcukers, marking the kind of multi-generational indie bill that rarely assembles in the city. Pre-registration for tickets is open now. A presale for registrants begins June 17 at 10 a.m. Eastern, with a public onsale following on June 18. Residents of select Queens zip codes—11368, 11355, 11375, and 11367—are eligible for a 20% discount on general admission tickets, valid through August 30 or until the show sells out.
The Strokes headline Bonnaroo this Friday, with the performance streaming via Hulu and Disney+. Reality Awaits arrives amid a flurry of live activity, but the album’s brief postponement—and a local show framed by deliberate Queens pricing—suggests a band measuring its returns carefully rather than chasing routine promotional cycles.
