The death metal vocalist made an appearance during a recent Texas stop, linking two distinct generations of American metal.
The live overlap between veteran groove metal and the current wave of death metal tightened a notch this week, when Frozen Soul vocalist Chad Green stepped onstage with Machine Head during a Texas show. A recording of the moment, brief and capturing the band mid-set with Green beside Robb Flynn, began circulating soon after.
Green’s own band, rooted in Texas and known for a heavy, mid-tempo death metal sound indebted to Bolt Thrower and Obituary, has built a steady following through two albums and significant touring. Machine Head, more than three decades into a career defined by grooves, changes in direction, and dedicated live audiences, offered a natural point of intersection.
No details of a planned collaboration emerged, and neither camp has suggested the appearance was more than a one-off gesture. Still, the visual of Green trading verses or adding weight to a Machine Head song on home soil tightens the connection between two acts that draw from different corners of the same heavy lineage.
