L’Rain Announces Fall Tour, Debuts ‘Borderline’ Video with Arooj Aftab

L’Rain has mapped out a North American tour this fall in support of her forthcoming album Fata Morgana, and shared a new video for “Borderline” featuring Arooj Aftab, Cécile McLorin Salvant, and an ice sculpture paying tribute to her mother.

L’Rain is taking her next album on the road. The artist born Taja Cheek will embark on a cross-country tour this fall, beginning September 14 in Kingston, New York, and closing December 8 in Los Angeles. The run supports Fata Morgana, due August 14, and includes stops in Montreal, Detroit, Washington, DC, and two nights at New York’s Nightclub 101 at the end of September. Full dates are below.

The announcement arrives alongside “Borderline,” the second preview from the record. Less hectic than the previously shared “Soulless Cycle,” the track settles into a more contemplative register. Its video, directed by Mackai Sharp, uses time-lapse to capture the slow chain-sawing of an ice sculpture. The image is directly personal: the clip is dedicated to L’Rain’s mother, Lorraine, “who loved chewing on ice and for whom the project is named,” per press materials. Arooj Aftab, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Tasha, Rena Anakwe, and E. Jane appear in the video.

Tour dates:

09-14 Kingston, NY – Tubby’s
09-15 Montreal, Quebec – La Sala Rossa
09-16 Toronto, Ontario – The Garrison
09-18 Detroit, MI – TSDMAAC (Crypt)
09-22 Pittsburgh, PA – The Andy Warhol Museum
