The new group, featuring Big Thief guitarist Buck Meek and vocalist Germaine Dunes, has released its first two tracks while on tour across North America.
Big Thief guitarist Buck Meek has been quietly assembling a new band. Kisser, formed last year, includes Meek alongside former Here We Go Magic frontman Luke Temple, vocalist Germaine Dunes, ambient composer Jesse Quebbeman-Turley, and guitarist Adam Brisbin—the same musicians who contributed to Meek’s solo album The Mirror earlier this year. The group had already opened for Meek on West Coast and European tours, and this week, as he launched a North American run, they released their first two songs: “Bad Boy Mountain” and “Ghostgirl.”
Dunes sings lead on both tracks, her voice winding through a tangled, groove-driven sound. The songs take a straightforward, classic-rock-informed indie approach, a more linear contrast to Big Thief’s elliptical style. The members, who also serve as Meek’s live band, recorded the material after months of playing together on the road. The dual role means they pull double duty on show nights, a dynamic that seems to have sharpened their chemistry.
The same week, Luke Temple’s solo project Art Feynman issued a new single, “Asleep At The Wheel.”
