The German DJ’s new single “Daily Commute” builds a club-ready soundscape from field recordings of mundane routines, the first result of a rolling, multi-disciplinary project.
In a project that turns the grind of everyday life into raw material, DJ and producer Marten Hørger has released a track stitched together from the sounds of offices, train platforms, and gyms. The single, “Daily Commute,” is the opening move in a creative relay initiated by the brand glo, which asked three artists to transform monotony into something generative.
Hørger started with a trio of demos, then let an online audience pick the one to develop. He added layers of instrumental composition and extra field recordings—some sourced from glimpses into other people’s routines. The result is a restless, beat-driven piece where the impersonal hum of daily transit gets reshaped into kinetic electronic structure.
The track carries no promotional weight by itself. Instead, it documents a process: sound as an archive of overlooked moments. Hørger, whose own life is built around travel, described the appeal of making peripheral noise audible and giving it forward momentum. “Developing a track from everyday sounds together with the community had an immediate creative appeal,” he said. “Making these perspectives from other people’s routines audible was the most exciting part of the process.”
The composition will now pass to illustrator Danii Pollehn, who will interpret it visually, and then to fashion designer Marcel Ostertag for a final piece. If the concept holds, the music stands less as a product than as a link in an extended, low-stakes conversation about where inspiration actually resides—in the background noise we usually tune out.
