Julia Holter Announces New Album Materia, Shares Single “My Lost One”

Julia Holter has set an August 21 release date for Materia, her next album for Domino. Alongside the announcement, she shared “My Lost One,” a track that unfolds slowly through Chris Speed’s ambiguous saxophone and Holter’s own murmured delivery. The song feels suspended between lullaby and ritual — soft, almost weightless, haunted by just enough friction to keep it from floating away.

Holter calls the piece a “witchy” folktale, one informed by children’s books packed with creepy rhymes, nonsense syllables, and images of the natural world intruding on interior life. Trees push through living rooms; animals wear clothes; the domestic and the feral trade places. The result is less a narrative than an atmosphere, a quiet invitation to imagine wildlife moving into your home as if it always belonged there.
