Inked & Amped Marks Inkcarceration Weekend With a Homegrown Festival at The Mothership

The Thursday before Inkcarceration weekend, Mansfield’s Inked & Amped festival transformed The Mothership into a hub of independent music and local craft. Co-presented by Maverick, SPIN, and the venue itself, the 21+ event leaned on the area’s own talent while pulling in acts from across the region.

Local bands Magnavox, Birds Cage, and Under Substance shared the bill with Kent’s Milk Bone, Nashville’s Wynton Existing, Detroit’s Electric Bug, and Akron’s Inpatient. The lineup gave each room a distinct character, from punchy rock to more oblique indie, and the crowd was receptive to both familiar faces and touring visitors.

Behind the indoor stage, Roger Davey projected liquid light visuals that he’s been refining since the late 1960s. Davey, who owns one of Frank Zappa’s original strobe lights, worked from a nearby setup, and the shifting colors added a quiet, analog depth to the sets.

The festival also held space for visual artists, tattooers from War Horse, and food vendors, turning the venue into a walkable market. The Mothership, which recently refreshed its walkways, curtains, and signage, has long prioritized a welcoming atmosphere. Here, that translated into a gathering that felt genuinely connected to its city.
