Shygirl has shared “Alyse,” a six-minute track co-written and produced with Karma Kid and JD Reid. The video’s three-act narrative is already a subject of dispute.
Shygirl’s first single of the year has arrived. “Alyse” was written and produced with Karma Kid and JD Reid, and it comes with a six-minute, three-act video directed by Francesco Loy Bell and Oliver Bell.
Early descriptions placed the clip in the middle of a wealthy couple discovering each other’s affairs, followed by a chase through London. Shygirl has since pushed back. In an Instagram story, she wrote that this is “very much not what’s happening in the video,” without offering further explanation. The contradiction leaves the film’s shape easier to describe than its meaning.
Shygirl only appears toward the end of the video. The track follows last year’s Club Shy Room 2, the sequel to her 2024 EP Club Shy, and Alias is Me, a remix companion to 2020’s Alias featuring contributions from Sega Bodega, George Riley, JT, and Nick León. She also collaborated with Eartheater on the singles “Shark Brain” and “Dolphin.” Her only full-length remains 2022’s Nymph.
By declining to clarify the video’s story, Shygirl keeps the attention on the material itself—a move consistent with the control she has shown across her releases so far.
