Native Instruments and A. G. Cook Release a Dedicated Supersaw Synth

Native Instruments has introduced SuperStarSaw, a software synth developed with producer A. G. Cook. The instrument centers on the supersaw waveform, tracing that sound directly back to Roland’s JP-8000, which introduced the detuned sawtooth stack in 1997.

Cook supplied many of the presets, while the interface uses visual elements from his longtime collaborator Simon Whybray. The green and pink design stands out immediately, and the plugin integrates with Komplete Kontrol and Maschine.

MusicRadar’s review notes that SuperStarSaw moves beyond the large pads associated with trance, also handling more restrained synth parts. It offers two partial layers, which defines its multitimbral limit. Some controls may require a look at the manual despite the clear graphics.

The supersaw has stayed central to commercial pop and electronic production since the late ’90s, but dedicated instruments built around that specific texture remain uncommon. SuperStarSaw fills that narrow space without pretending to be a general-purpose workhorse.
