Olivia Tremor Control Return With “Advice From The Oceans”

A month after announcing The Same Place, their first album in 27 years, Olivia Tremor Control have shared another track. “Advice From The Oceans” is the third preview from the record, following “The Same Place” and “Garden Of Light.”

According to a Facebook post from Elephant 6, the song emerged from the band’s first sessions in 2010, after a long break. That passage of time is audible in the looseness of the arrangement. The track moves quickly, with violin and clarinet cutting through a mix that bends toward hallucination. It feels less like a finished statement than a travel sketch caught between land and water.

The two earlier singles already suggested a group picking up threads rather than forcing a comeback narrative. “Advice From The Oceans” deepens that impression. Its instrumental textures are more tangled, its melody less eager to resolve. The song has the unstable energy of an idea captured before it could be polished into something safer.
