Beyoncé Expands B’Day for 20th Anniversary With Unreleased Songs and Latin Collaborations

Beyoncé has returned to her 2006 sophomore album B’Day with a digital 20th-anniversary edition that stretches the record to 31 tracks. Unveiled on Sept. 4, her birthday, the reissue pairs the original album with previously unreleased songs: “Creole,” “Back Up,” “Lost Yo Mind,” and “Can I Watch You,” featuring Pharrell Williams. The project was teased in July with “Morning Dew (Donk).”

The set also deepens the album’s Latin music connections. “Cuerpo Tumbao (Get Me Bodied)” marks Beyoncé’s first collaboration with Maluma and samples Celia Cruz’s “La Negra Tiene Tumbao.” According to a press release, Beyoncé has long admired Cruz’s pride in her African culture and her refusal to bend under racism and narrow beauty standards. For “Irreemplazable (Como La Flor),” Beyoncé received approval from Selena Quintanilla’s estate; she has previously cited Selena as an influence on her Spanish-language recordings and 2007 EP Irreemplazable.

The anniversary release also includes remastered videos originally captured on 35mm, recolored and finished in 4K, including Sophie Muller’s “Déjà Vu” clip with Jay-Z. Beyoncé framed the album as a deliberate blend of R&B structure and hip-hop production. “I was fighting to preserve the bridges, melodies, and harmonies that have always been at the heart of R&B,” she said. The original B’Day hit Number One and has been certified quintuple platinum by the RIAA.
