Gift Horse Add Ryley Walker, Announce New Album A Career In Architecture

Gift Horse’s transition from duo to trio is not just a personnel change. It signals a shift in how the project operates. Jonathan Schenke, known for his time in P.E., and Matthew Hord of Fine Place had established Gift Horse as an electronic collaboration. Adding Ryley Walker—a guitarist with a reputation for extended improvisation—introduces a different kind of tension into that framework.

The announcement of their new album, A Career In Architecture, comes with lead single “Rebar Redux.” Schenke produced, mixed, and mastered the record at Studio Windows in Brooklyn, and he emphasized a live approach. “Every performance is unique,” he told Flood, noting that the song has stretched beyond ten minutes in earlier iterations. For the studio version, the band tracked it live to preserve that unrestrained dynamic.

The accompanying video follows the same logic. Director Rebecca Shenfeld filmed a single take with a 360 camera, editing the footage to match the song’s intensity. It is a practical extension of the record’s central idea: capture the performance, not a polished imitation of it.

A Career In Architecture spans eleven tracks, including a title track featuring Michael Vallera. It arrives November 6 on Husky Pants.
