P!nk Distances Herself From Repost in Macklemore Dispute

P!nk has responded to criticism over a repost concerning Macklemore’s recent onstage call for a free Palestine, clarifying that the wording was not her own. In a lengthy statement, she said she reshared a post from StopAntisemitism following the rapper’s set at an Ed Sheeran show, but did not choose all of its language.

“Last Sunday I reposted somebody else’s post about Macklemore’s set at Ed Sheeran’s show. It said things in words I didn’t write, and I wouldn’t have chosen all of them,” she wrote. “A repost isn’t a statement, and a meme isn’t a spine.”

P!nk maintained that her reaction was shaped by a 2014 Grammys performance in which Macklemore wore what she described as a stereotypical Jewish costume. She said she had moved on after his apology, but his recent remarks brought those feelings back into focus. Her concern, she argued, was not the phrase “Free Palestine” itself, but what she saw as a dismissive attitude toward Jewish concerns.

She also addressed the term “Zionist,” saying it was used “like it’s a slur” by people who did not know her actual beliefs. P!nk pointed to her work as a UNICEF ambassador, stating, “I went to those children and held them. I’m not going to litigate a complex war in an Instagram caption, and I’m not going to recite anybody’s slogan to earn back a follower.”
