Lala Lala Releases Surprise Piano Album Wall Tongue

Lillie West has never treated the Lala Lala project as a single, uninterrupted line. Earlier this year she released Heaven 2, the follow-up to 2021’s I Want The Door To Open. In 2024 she put out an instrumental album under the title if i were a real man i would be able to break the neck of a suffering bird. Now comes Wall Tongue, a surprise piano LP recorded during a summer residency in Greece.

West made the record at Mudhouse Residency in Agios Ioannis, a coastal village on the island of Crete. “It was a very idyllic experience,” she wrote on Instagram, announcing the release the same day it appeared. The album arrives with a small run of 70 cassettes, a format choice that signals the project’s scale: not a pivot, but a detour.

The music itself has not been described in detail beyond its instrumentation, but the setting and method suggest something closer to private reflection than to the structured studio work of Heaven 2. For an artist whose songwriting often turns inward, a spontaneous piano album made on a residency reads less like a content drop and more like a document of a particular place and time.

Wall Tongue is available now, with the cassette run limited and already likely to move quickly among listeners who follow West’s side projects as closely as her main records.
