Robocobra Quartet Detail 100-Song Album ‘Hundred Pieces’ and Share ‘Haha’

Robocobra Quartet have announced ‘Hundred Pieces’, a five-hour album of 100 songs, due 13th November. The Irish experimental collective began the project as a joke before committing to write specifically for “the hundred,” drawing from Marina Abramović’s durational art and her memoir ‘Walk Through Walls’. Some tracks took months of studio work; others, like ‘Gilded’ and ‘Ashes Again’, were finished in minutes.

The first single, ‘Haha’, leans into that split logic. Rolling basslines carry saxophone and distortion around Chris W Ryan’s spoken, sung and shouted vocals, with digital alterations woven through. Ryan, who drums and sings, self-produced the record to let each song dictate its own threshold. “Often when I work with other artists, it can be that very first demo that has the magic in it, but other times a song only works once it has been heavily produced,” he says. “With this album we were able to experiment with that and push songs only as far as they ‘ask’ for.”
