Show Me The Body have taken Charli xcx’s “Rock Music” at its word. The New York band’s Spotify Live Room session reworks the May single into the full-blooded live setting its title implies, with frontman Julian Cashwan Pratt delivering the opening line—“I think the dancefloor is dead, so now we’re making rawwwwwwwk music”—as a statement of fact rather than a question.

The cover arrives paired with a live-in-studio performance of “Do What’s Right (Happy),” a track from Show Me The Body’s Loma Vista album Alone Together. That sequencing places the pop single in direct dialogue with the band’s own recent work, recorded with producers Kenneth Blume and Klas Åhlund.

Charli’s original, the lead single from Music, Fashion, Film, sparked discussion about whether she was making a straightforward move into rock. She later connected that reaction to earlier debates around PC Music and “Vroom Vroom,” writing that “things can be funny, earnest, sincere, and joyful all at the same time.” Show Me The Body’s version doesn’t settle that argument, and it doesn’t need to.
