The Barcelona festival’s 25th edition puts 151 acts at Parc del Fòrum, adds a free opening day and an eight-hour electronic closing, and extends into city-wide programming.
Primavera Sound has confirmed the bill for its 25th edition: 151 artists at Parc del Fòrum from June 3 to 5, preceded by a free opening day on June 2 and followed by an electronic closing event on June 6. Additional programming at venues around Barcelona will be announced later, turning the festival into a full week.
The headliners span Doechii, Phoebe Bridgers, Fontaines D.C., Hayley Williams, FKA twigs, Turnstile, Massive Attack, the Chemical Brothers, Robyn, Bad Gyal, Lola Young, Caroline Polachek, Prospa and a Skrillex b2b Ninajirachi set. Several carry their own weight: Doechii makes her Spanish festival debut, Massive Attack and the Chemical Brothers play Primavera for the first time, and FKA twigs brings a new show.
Elsewhere the bill reads like a deliberate collision of eras. ANOHNI presents a set of songs by her mentor Lou Reed. Don Caballero reunite with guitarist Ian Williams for the first time since 2000. Bradford Cox returns with Atlas Sound material, and the festival notes he has appeared more times than any other artist, with Deerhunter or solo. The lower reaches run from Pavement, Underworld and Bleachers to Arca, Tirzah, Shygirl, Converge, Juana Molina and 81-year-old folk singer Vashti Bunyan.
The June 6 Primavera Bits close pairs Richie Hawtin, Four Tet and Dixon across eight hours of alternating sets. The festival again states that women are represented equally across the lineup. Primavera Pro, its industry conference and showcase programme, runs June 2 to 5 at DHub for an 18th edition.
