Lorenzo Senni Announces All Ages, His First Album in Six Years

The Italian producer returns to Warp on 11/20 with a record that pairs his trance-derived electronics with voices from skateboarding and Xiu Xiu.

Lorenzo Senni has announced All Ages, his first album in six years, due 11/20 on Warp. The lead single, “Art Life & Skateboarding,” opens the record and carries its most unusual casting: spoken passages from Chad Muska and Jamie Thomas, two figures who shaped American skateboarding in the 1990s.

The pairing is deliberate. Muska built a reputation as a party animal; Thomas is straightedge. Senni places both voices over an urgent, dramatic trance beat, and frames the contrast as the point. “They have opposite characteristics within something I love, skateboarding,” he says. “It makes for a beautiful encounter.”

It is a familiar move for an artist whose work has long treated trance as raw material rather than nostalgia, extracting its emotional charge and reordering it into something more severe. Here the human voice does the work his synths usually do, introducing friction the beat can press against.

Skateboarding is not the album’s only outside element. Xiu Xiu’s Jamie Stewart appears on “La Persuasione e La Rettorica.” The eleven tracks range across titles like “Jealous Of Michelangelo,” “Your Favourite DJ,” and “Good Clean Fun,” suggesting Senni is still drawn to collisions between high reference and low culture, and still willing to let the absurd sit next to the sincere.

Six years is a long gap for an artist who once moved quickly. All Ages arrives 11/20 on Warp.
