Third Man Records will reissue Loretta Lynn’s 2004 album Van Lear Rose on November 13, bringing it back to streaming for the first time since it was pulled in 2021.
Third Man Records will reissue Loretta Lynn’s Van Lear Rose on November 13 in vinyl and CD formats. The more consequential part of the announcement is digital: the album returns to streaming services for the first time since it disappeared from them in 2021, without explanation, leaving one of Lynn’s most discussed records out of reach for anyone who did not already own a copy.
The album’s premise was unusual when it arrived in 2004. Lynn had not released a solo record since 1988’s Who Was That Stranger, and it took Jack White, then at the height of his visibility, to bring her back into the studio. He produced the album and played on it, which carried the record to listeners well outside country radio’s usual reach.
It held up on its own terms. Van Lear Rose won two Grammy Awards: Best Country Album, and Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for “Portland Oregon,” the duet between Lynn and White. The new edition adds “Just to Have You Back,” a bonus track that until now had circulated only among buyers of Third Man’s 2015 Vault reissue.
“Our mother’s spirit lives on through this timeless music, and we are thrilled that fans old and new will be reminded of this great work,” Patsy Russell, Lynn’s daughter, said in a press statement, describing the reissue as an honor to work on with White and the Third Man team.
The single “Miss Being Mrs.” is available on streaming platforms now.
