Failure are touring the United States this fall, and drummer Kellii Scott is using the run to move inventory from his vintage watch business, one appointment at a time.
Failure are in the middle of a fall tour across the United States, and Kellii Scott is carrying more than a drum kit. The band’s longtime drummer has a side business fixing and selling vintage watches, and he has folded it into the tour schedule.
On Monday, Scott used his personal Instagram account to invite New Yorkers to book an appointment with him ahead of that night’s Failure show at Warsaw in Brooklyn, advertising “dozens of kick ass watches up for grabs.” The pattern repeats city by city: where the band plays, he sells.
His inventory sits on a separate account called Keeping Time, launched a few months ago. The stock steers away from the ultra-ritzy end of watch collecting and toward modestly priced vintage pieces, with plenty of Seikos among them. That puts Scott closer to the practical side of the hobby than the investment side, in the company of buyers like Billy Strings, who told GQ recently that he has a “nasty addiction” to affordable vintage watches.
What makes the arrangement notable is its logistics. Touring has long doubled as a market for musicians, but usually through merchandise, not a personal trade that travels with the band. Scott needs no storefront, only a date, a city, and a buyer willing to meet before doors open.
