Big Thief Open a Free Live Archive With Ten Full Concerts

Big Thief have put ten complete concerts online at no cost, with monthly additions planned and a concert film still to come.

Big Thief have placed ten complete concerts online, free to watch, as the opening installment of a live archive the band intends to keep growing. The sets are drawn from shows filmed in full, and the additions are meant to arrive monthly rather than in a single retrospective dump.

Among the first items is a live performance of “Incomprehensible,” which gives the collection a song-level anchor alongside the full concerts. The same cameras that captured the performances were also rolling with a concert film in mind. No details on that have surfaced yet, leaving the archive as the only finished document for now.

For a band whose live shows carry much of the argument, this is a practical use of resources. Recorded versions of Big Thief songs tend to be starting points rather than fixed texts; by the end of a tour, arrangements have usually shifted shape. Bootlegs and fan recordings have circulated for years. Official, complete, and free changes the terms of that exchange, and it gives listeners outside the touring circuit access to performances they would otherwise only hear about secondhand.

The monthly cadence is the part worth watching. It commits the band to publishing on a schedule without the weight of a new record, and it treats the archive as something ongoing rather than a career summary. The first ten shows are available now.
