Two US dates are being moved rather than cancelled after the singer came down with what he described as a bad case of the flu.
Tom Jones has postponed two US shows, in Los Angeles and San Diego, after coming down with what he called “a bad case of the flu”. The dates are being moved on medical advice rather than dropped from the schedule entirely.
For a singer, influenza is not a minor inconvenience. Respiratory illness sits directly on the instrument, and a show performed through it risks the voice as well as the ticket buyer’s money. Postponing is the less dramatic decision, and the correct one.
Rescheduling also carries costs that rarely get discussed. Two West Coast dates pulled at short notice mean venue holds, crew, freight and a routing plan rebuilt around new availability. That work happens quietly, and it is part of why a postponement often takes longer to announce than a cancellation.
Jones has maintained a steady touring schedule in recent years, playing theatres and arenas rather than limiting himself to occasional appearances. Audiences buying tickets for him are buying a voice in working order, which is exactly what current medical advice says he cannot yet deliver.
The Los Angeles and San Diego shows will be played. Replacement dates have not been confirmed, and the gap in the calendar is the result of a virus rather than any reassessment of the tour.
