Ayra Starr Releases Third Album ‘Starrgirl’

The Nigerian singer’s 16-track project pairs features with Wizkid, Rema, and Kwn in a record shaped by growth and cultural curiosity.

Ayra Starr has returned with her third album, Starrgirl, a 16-track project that positions her growth as its central subject. The Nigerian singer’s previous records, 19 & Dangerous and The Year I Turned 21, mapped her early rise. The new release takes a broader view, exploring the space between personal history and cultural roots.

Starr has spoken about wanting to “blend tradition while existing in multitudes,” and the album moves accordingly. R&B and Afropop share room with dancefloor-leaning production and quieter reflection. Features from Wizkid, Kwn, Leon Thomas, Rema, Theodora, and Terry Apala give the record its varied texture without displacing Starr’s own voice.

Several tracks arrived ahead of the release—Gimme Dat, Tornado, and Hot Body—offering different registers of her sound. The album’s fuller shape comes through in moments like Ms. Paper, where Theodora’s French verse rides a Bouyon rhythm, and Who’s Dat Girl, which pairs Starr with Rema. The slower material, including Misunderstood and Letter To God, opens the record to introspection.

Starrgirl arrives as her most expansive work to date. It suggests an artist testing how far her range can go without losing the curiosity that has marked her career so far.
