The artist did not appear at a pre-trial hearing in a long-running civil case brought by her former manager, Jeff Kwatinetz.
Azealia Banks did not attend a final status hearing in Los Angeles on Tuesday ahead of a bench trial scheduled for May 5. The trial will determine damages owed to her former manager, Jeff Kwatinetz.
Judge Brock T. Hammond indicated the one day trial will proceed whether Banks participates or not. He requested Kwatinetz’s lawyer provide formal notice to the artist. Kwatinetz and his wife are expected to testify in person.
The case stems from a 2021 lawsuit where Kwatinetz accused Banks of stalking, defamation, and civil extortion. A court has already found Banks liable on these claims. This upcoming trial will decide the financial penalty.
Kwatinetz initially sued in 2020, dismissed that filing during negotiations, and refiled the following year. The ongoing legal dispute represents another protracted chapter in Banks’s career outside of music.
