Bassvictim Announce 19-Track Album Peace + War, Share New Single “White Flag”

The UK duo’s second album arrives 11/6 on VOTB, with a tracklist still under wraps. “White Flag” shows what the pair do when Maria Manow’s voice is pushed to the front of Ike Clateman’s production.

Bassvictim have confirmed a new album. Peace + War is out 11/6 on VOTB and runs nineteen tracks, a scale that sits oddly against the small, close-miked electronics the UK duo are known for. The tracklist has not been shared yet, so the shape of the record is still unknown. What is clear is that the pair are not trimming.

The announcement follows “Jagódki (Blueberries),” released in September and now confirmed as the album’s lead single. It also follows an EP earlier this year that leaned on the softer end of their range, where the indie-sleaze-era synths and twee bedroom-pop instincts were allowed to sit quietly rather than collide. Second single “White Flag” goes the other way. Maria Manow’s vocal is unguarded and abrasive at the edges, and Ike Clateman’s production stays raw underneath it, closer to a live room than a studio construction. It is the kind of track built to carry a set rather than a playlist.

The duo tour extensively around the release, starting 10/22 at Chicago’s Cermak Hall and running through Columbus, Boston, Philadelphia, Richmond, Washington and two New York shows on 10/31. The European leg opens 11/04 at Le Trabendo for Pitchfork Paris and reaches London’s Troxy on 11/06, the album’s release date, before closing in Dublin on 11/15.
