The father of frontman Brendan Yates addressed the crowd in a pre-recorded video, marking a public update after a recent violent incident involving a former band member.
Turnstile’s first Coachella performance served as a platform for a personal update. The band’s weekend one set at the festival was introduced via video by Bill Yates, the father of vocalist Brendan Yates.
This appearance followed a serious incident in March where former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert was arrested and charged with the attempted murder of Bill Yates. The band had previously stated Bill underwent surgery and was recovering.
In the brief video shown before the performance on the Outdoor Theatre stage, Bill Yates identified himself and expressed pride in the band. His ability to address the crowd provided a visible, if understated, sign of his ongoing recovery to both the live audience and those watching the stream.
The set itself proceeded without direct comment on the matter, focusing instead on the band’s music. The introduction framed the performance within a period of personal turmoil for the group and its extended family.
