Directed by Joe Ward and set inside a narrow tunnel lit with clinical precision, the official video for “Blondie” arrived on May 15 as the first statement from Bladee’s new album, now released today on Trash Island.
The video, produced by Nightshade with direction by Joe Ward and cinematography by Elliot Holbrow, uses the confined space and precise lighting to create an atmosphere of tension and intimacy that echoes the song’s themes.“Blondie” moves at a deliberate pace. Produced entirely by Whitearmor, it layers Bladee’s voice over a blend of hip-hop structure, alt-rock texture and electronic haze. The track accumulates rather than explodes, its control giving the impression of something both devotional and volatile.
Sulfur Surfer is Bladee’s follow-up to 2024’s Cold Visions. The 13-track project, released today on Trash Island, features a contribution from the experimental group Current 93. Whitearmor’s production remains the unifying thread, sharpening the sonic identity Bladee has built across the Drain Gang catalogue. Ward’s direction turns the tunnel into more than location. The lighting isolates the figures, the movement direction gives their gestures weight, and the overall palette keeps everything in a cool, saturated register. The clip does not explain the song; it extends it.
In a landscape of constant escalation, the “Blondie” video stands out for its restraint. It offers precision and atmosphere as the visual key to Sulfur Surfer’s deeper architecture.
