The Connecticut metalcore band announce their first album for Sumerian Records, due July 17, and share a new single.
Connecticut metalcore band Boundaries have announced their debut album for Sumerian Records. Titled Yearning: the unbeautiful after, it arrives July 17. The record was cut in fall 2025 with producer Drew Fulk and includes two songs featuring The Plot in You’s Landon Tewers.
Vocalist Matthew McDougal frames the album as a response to what he sees as heavy music losing its edge. “We aimed to be uncompromising and really plant our flag,” he says. “As more time passes, heavy music continues to lose its teeth. This genre is supposed to be threatening; it should have an edge and make you feel something.” The title, he adds, gets at something more straightforward: “What do you want from life, relationships, or whatever you spend time on?”
Boundaries signed to Sumerian last month, making this their first release under the label. The band has been building steadily since forming in 2014, with a sound rooted in crushing, emotionally direct metalcore. Yearning: the unbeautiful after looks to sharpen that approach rather than soften it. A new single is out now.
