Carly Rae Jepsen Returns With Double Album “Day and Night”

Carly Rae Jepsen has returned with Day and Night, a 24-track double album that splits its material across two distinct halves. It marks her first full-length release since 2023’s The Loveliest Time, arriving after a rollout that began quietly in June.

The album’s latest single, “Versailles,” draws from Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette — a film about excess, isolation, and the choreography of public appearances. The reference suits Jepsen, who has long balanced bright pop structures against more complicated emotional textures. She wrote the song with Elias Kapari, Noonie Bao, and Markus Krunegård, with Kapari handling production.

The video, directed by Kanya Iwana and filmed in Los Angeles, places Jepsen at a party while she imagines the French chateau. “I wanna party in Versailles / I wanna see it in the nighttime,” she sings. “Marie Antoinette but modern.” The historical echo is deliberate: the song frames desire as a form of role-play, not just escapism.

Each LP collects 12 songs around the Day and Night concept. Jepsen hinted at the project through timed instrumental snippets on her website in June, followed by twice-daily postcard images on social media, each carrying a lyric, location, and timestamp. She has also shared “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor,” an ABBA-indebted track, in the lead-up. A sunset set at All Things Go Festival in New York on September 27 will be her first live performance of the year.
