The Brooklyn artist returns on October 23 with a 10-track Dead Oceans LP and the single “She Doesn’t Love Me,” a bittersweet turn from heaviness toward communal release.
Claud will release their third studio album, “Me and the Music,” on October 23 via Dead Oceans. It is the Brooklyn musician’s first full-length in three years, following 2023’s “Supermodels.” Co-created by Claud and John Congleton, the 10-track record stays inside Claud’s established sound while moving away from the heavier register of the previous album.
The album circles a core question: Does everything have to feel so heavy all the time? “I was just sick of taking everything so seriously—‘Supermodels’ was such a serious record, and I just sulked in feelings for so long,” Claud says. “Such terrible things have happened in this country the last few years, but I’ve only grown closer to the people around me because of that. The world has shown me that the worst can happen, but it might just bring you closer to your community. There’s a difference between being sincere with life and taking life too seriously.”
The first single, “She Doesn’t Love Me,” carries that theme. On the surface it works as an unrequited love song, but it also casts America as a toxic girlfriend. The video follows Claud through missed dates and unanswered calls before landing on comfort and belonging in community. The closing bar scene includes cameos from Shelly bandmates Clairo and Josh Mehling, along with Samia, Annie DiRusso, Hank Heaven, Josie Strick, Sammy Steiner, Harrison Allen, and Cam
