Sadurn Releases “Never Tell Me,” a Live Staple From Their Forthcoming Album

The track predates their 2022 debut but finally gets a studio version on The Underworld, out October 16 via Run For Cover.

G DeGroot has been reluctant to call “Never Tell Me” a new Sadurn song, which is strange because it’s the one the band has been closing shows with since before anyone had heard of them. The six-minute track, released today from the forthcoming album The Underworld, originated in 2021 during a breakup. DeGroot says they became too depressed to finish it for six months — and that delay turned out to be useful.

By the time DeGroot returned to the song, Sadurn had grown from an acoustic duo into a full band. The track was completed collaboratively, a process that marks a shift from the group’s 2022 debut Radiator, where older acoustic compositions were retrofitted for a larger lineup. Here, the band was part of the writing from the start.

The result closes the album on October 16 via Run For Cover, but “Never Tell Me” already has a history outside the studio. The accompanying video reflects that communal, handmade energy: DeGroot built puppets, the band ran through the woods, and the green screen work sends them toward a stranger realm. It’s not a new song, but it arrives with a new context.
