Craig Finn and Patterson Hood Revive Devils in the Details Tour for July 2026

The Hold Steady and Drive-By Truckers frontmen return to the stage together for a limited East Coast and Twin Cities run, reprising the loose, collaborative format they developed last fall.

Craig Finn and Patterson Hood will play seven co-headline shows in July 2026, reviving the Devils in the Details tour format they first tested in November 2025. The dates, announced by Finn on Instagram, bring the two songwriters back to the Twin Cities and the East Coast for a series of evenings where they trade songs onstage together, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Ben Hackett.

The shows echo the short West Coast run the pair did last fall, which Finn described as “loose, fun, musical, and truly special.” Rather than alternating solo sets, the two men remain onstage at the same time, moving through material from their respective catalogs and their decades-long friendship. The result is part living-room hang, part curated dive into the overlapping corners of American rock storytelling that The Hold Steady and Drive-By Truckers have mapped for years.

Finn and Hood have known each other for nearly twenty years, crossing paths through festivals, co-headline bills, and shared geography of heartland-influenced guitar music. This small-venue tour, however, strips away the full-band spectacle to focus on the songs themselves and the conversation between two writers who treat lyrics as literature. No openers, no production grandeur. Just two voices, a guitar, and Hackett moving between instruments.

Specific venues and dates are yet to be confirmed, but the announcement frames the run as a deliberate, limited thing—not a rollout for new albums, but a continuation of a connection that matters to them. In an era of maximalist tour packages, that kind of restraint is genuinely rare.
