Dorian Treats Love Like a Dropped Call on RECONNECTED

On RECONNECTED, New Jersey-born, DC-based artist Dorian stretches a 2024 single into a full album about distance, pride, and the slow work of coming back.

Dorian came up the independent way, New Jersey first, then the Washington, D.C. orbit, writing and releasing under his own name since 2019. The catalogue has a restless shape. Songs in the Key of Love. Dream World. The Arrival: Dream World Pt. 2. The 33 project. A run of singles that sit between 90s and 2000s R&B memory and current pop polish. REIGN LOVE remains the record people still find first. In 2022 the DMV platform EnJOY The Mic named him Artist of the Year. By the time THE COLLECTION arrived in June 2026, the stream count sat past two million, and the title track that would name this album had already lived a second life as a single pack, a dance EP, and a Dream Mix. RECONNECTED, released 22 August 2026 through Dorian Christian LLC, is the full argument those previews were pointing toward. Fourteen songs. About forty minutes. One featured name, JUDO, on LOVE LETTER.

There is a small modern ritual that almost nobody writes songs about. Your headphones drop for half a second. The phone screen throws up that pale word, Reconnecting, and a spinner that refuses to hurry. You wait. You do not throw the device. You just stand there holding a conversation that has gone silent, hoping the handshake finds itself again. That pause is ordinary and slightly humiliating. It is also the whole temperature of this record.

Dorian has said the album felt like rediscovering why he fell in love with making things in the first place. He wanted it alive, colorful, fearless, free. The cover follows that brief. Mesh, rose, a swirl of notes that look like signal rather than decoration. The music does the same work with less glamour. INTRO is barely a minute, almost a cappella at first, gospel-adjacent harmonies holding the line I’ve been missing you. Then a downtempo pulse walks in and the human heat meets a colder grid. The album tells you its method in that cut. Voice first. Machinery second. The two have to learn each other again.

US 4EVER opens on piano and grows into a mid-tempo electronic frame, Auto-Tune sitting on the vocal like a thin coat rather than a mask. The lyric reaches for stars, time, and odds, the usual cosmic furniture of a love song that wants permanence. What saves it is pacing. The hook repeats until it starts to feel like a vow you say because you are scared it might fade. BAECATION! then throws the windows open. Tropical R&B, a booked flight, crashing waves as a production idea more than a postcard. After two tracks of missing and forever, the third song is a reservation. The contrast is blunt and useful. WHEN YOU’RE WITH ME pulls the lights back down. Deep bass, soft synths, a little glitch in the second half, a request to breathe that still carries a possessive edge. Kick back and chill sits next to I get possessive. The record does not tidy that tension. It just lets both lines share the room.

#DREAMLOVE is the slow stare across a sofa. Ocean, night sky, first-time impact, the claim that this love makes you a believer. The arrangement stays close to contemporary neo-soul with electronic haze around the edges. Then WAKE ME breaks the weather. Reality doesn’t seem real to me. News as weather system. A plea to be woken when the mess is over. It is the album’s most public room, the moment the private couple plot has to share air with the outside world. OOO answers that pressure with body and bite. Safe space, then accusation, then a hook that is barely a word. You make me wanna ooo. Darker bass, tighter pocket. Desire as irritation. GO!! slams the other door, Afro-leaning percussion and a mantra built on a single verb. Take one step at a time. Soon the sun will shine. LAST GOODBYE arrives immediately after that sunlight and asks the harder question. Should I let you fly. I love you, but I gotta let you go. Ethereal synth-pop, circular phrasing, no tantrum. The maturity here is in the lack of spectacle. Two people tried. Something is not working. The pride has to be swallowed before anything else can happen.

FRESH START is the photograph on a birthday, the face in the frame that still looks stuck. Distance as a practical problem. How do I get the words to you. The chorus asks for a reset without pretending the slip never happened. Then the title track, RECONNECTED, the song that has been circling since August 2024, finally sits in the middle of its own house. I’ve been missing you. Who’s right, who’s wrong no longer matters. Loneliness is named as a shared condition. The production still wants movement, dance-pop lift under an R&B confession, which is why the single always felt like a preview of a larger weather system rather than a closed statement. LOVE LETTER, with JUDO, turns the temperature toward shelter. Call on me, every minute. YOUR PEACE asks the last intimate question. Can I be your peace. Will you let me be your refuge. OUTRO does the strange, almost old-fashioned thing of speaking to the person wearing headphones. I hope you enjoyed. I hope it resonated. Press play again. The word reconnected suddenly means the listener as well as the lover.

That is the handshake. Not a single dramatic reunion scene, but a sequence of failed taps, beach escapes, news-cycle shutdowns, last goodbyes, and second attempts. The writing stays plain on purpose. Reservation. Fresh start. Love letter. Peace. Dorian is not hiding behind metaphor so much as stacking ordinary verbs until they carry weight. The risk of that approach is softness. A few hooks lean on repetition past the point of necessity, and the genre jumps, tropical then dark then uplifting then ambient, can feel like a mood board rather than one room. What holds the record is the vocal presence and the narrative spine. He sounds like someone who has already lived the drop and is still willing to wait for the click.

RECONNECTED matters as a completed circuit more than as a debut of an idea. The idea has been public for two years. The album is the patience around it. In a catalogue built on love as subject and hybrid form as method, this is the project that treats connection as labor, not as sparkle. The spinner keeps turning. Sometimes the devices find each other. Sometimes you have to stand in the quiet and try again.
