Marieangela King Allman says she, not a court-appointed fiduciary, should manage the finances of Cher’s son while he is held in a New Hampshire psychiatric facility.
The legal fight over Elijah Blue Allman’s finances has shifted from Cher’s petition to a direct challenge from his wife. Marieangela King Allman has filed papers in Los Angeles County arguing that if a judge orders oversight for the son of Cher and the late Gregg Allman, she should be the one to handle it, not a professional fiduciary chosen by Cher.
Allman is currently held in a locked psychiatric facility in New Hampshire while facing criminal charges. According to court records cited in the filing, he was arrested in February at St. Paul’s School in Concord on suspicion of trespassing, criminal threats, and simple assault. Police said he claimed to be a prospective parent and poked a student with his cane. Two days later, he was arrested again in Windham after a woman reported someone breaking into her home; officers found him seated on a living room couch smoking a cigarette.
King Allman says she dismissed divorce proceedings earlier this year at her husband’s urging and that Allman “vehemently opposed” Cher’s earlier effort to be named conservator. In her filing, she describes the current petition as an “adversarial campaign” intended to strip her of her role as spouse. She claims a court-appointed fiduciary would feel to Allman like further punishment and could damage his recovery.
Cher’s lawyer previously told a court that Allman traveled to New Hampshire to visit a friend and went on “some sort of a spree” before the arrests. The case remains pending in California.
