They played two tracks from the record: “Caught in the Echo” and “Child Actor.” The former came through with the kind of taut, direct energy that has marked the band’s recent singles, while the latter leaned into slower, more deliberate pacing. Neither performance felt over-rehearsed. It was late-night rock played loud, with visible relief from the band that Smear was back.
The SNL UK slot arrives a few weeks after Your Favorite Toy landed to mixed but interested reactions. The album has drawn attention for its tighter song structures and less stadium-sized production — a shift that these live cuts served well. Backed by a minimal stage setup, the band didn’t rely on anything beyond the core sound.
Foo Fighters head out on a summer tour with Queens of the Stone Age later this year, a pairing that puts two very different rock lineages in the same venues. For now, this brief TV moment feels like a quiet recalibration before the larger run.
