Gently Tender Expand ‘This Was Once Fields’ Into a Second Album

Gently Tender’s five-track EP ‘This Was Once Fields’ has become the spine of a second album. Released in May on TODO Records, those tracks now sit alongside five new songs, including the just-shared ‘Don’t Sleep’, with the full record due on 16 October.

Frontman Sam Fryer wrote ‘Don’t Sleep’ after driving through London at night. He calls it an “Uber Pop song” — the kind of track that sounds like it belongs in a late-night cab. “I’m wrestling between love and hate for the city,” he says. “When I scream ‘I love this place’ it’s almost through gritted teeth. Over the years I have struggled with London – but when I reflect upon it – I have to pay my respects to how it’s shaped my life artistically.”

The album follows their 2022 debut ‘Take Hold Of Your Promise!’ and draws from Fryer’s walks through the green belt on London’s northern edge. Gently Tender play Sŵn Festival in Cardiff in October, then head out on a UK and Ireland headline tour in November.
