Clinic Announce Tenth Album ‘Wild In The Streets’

Clinic’s longevity rests on a kind of calculated refusal. Three decades in, the Liverpool duo still treat familiarity as a warning sign. Their tenth album, ‘Wild In The Streets’, arrives 30th October via Domino, with lead single ‘You and I’ out now.

Sung by Jonathan Hartley, the track takes a sardonic view of the band’s own profession, landing its chorus on a borrowed line: “There’s no business like showbusiness like no business I know.” The delivery undercuts any nostalgia.

Most of the record’s 12 songs dip under three minutes. Ade Blackburn explains the logic plainly: “We’ve always run in the opposite direction to what’s happening.” That instinct now draws on exotica percussion from Martin Denny and Les Baxter, dub reggae, Cabaret Voltaire, and early rock’n’roll for its directness. The result, according to Blackburn, is a push toward propulsion — sometimes cutting a whole verse to keep a song moving.
