Geordie Greep Issues Statement After Accuser and Touring Keyboardist Speak Out

The former black midi frontman acknowledged attempting to kiss the woman who has accused him of sexual assault, maintaining he did not realize she was asleep. His remaining US tour dates have been canceled.

Geordie Greep posted a statement to Instagram on Wednesday, hours after Paste published a report in which the woman at the center of recent allegations against him came forward with her own account. She says the former black midi frontman sexually assaulted her while she was asleep.

Laura, a pseudonym, also said the flyers accusing Greep of rape that appeared outside his October 8 Vancouver concert were distributed without her knowledge or consent, by someone she trusted. “My voice was taken away from me,” she told Paste. She drew a hard distinction between the two terms: “I was not raped. I was sexually assaulted.” She added that the claim on the flyers was made by “a man who was mad,” not by her.

Touring keyboardist Cameron Campbell told Paste he woke to her scream, later saw her crying and visibly shaken, and decided that night to leave Greep’s backing band. He said the band confronted Greep before he informed the tour manager, and that he had already quit by the time the flyers appeared outside the following night’s show.

Greep performed the Vancouver date without his backing band, denied the rape allegation from the stage, and described the encounter as a misunderstood advance in which he “made a move, and it didn’t come off.” In his statement he acknowledged trying to kiss her, saying he believed she was interested and did not realize she was asleep. Her account diverges on that evening, including her insistence that she had repeatedly made clear she was in an exclusive relationship. His remaining US tour dates have since been canceled.
