Guns N’ Roses Play “Black Leather” Live for the First Time

The band performed the deep-cut cover from ‘The Spaghetti Incident?’ during a show in Brazil, reviving a song originally written by Sex Pistols members.

Guns N’ Roses played “Black Leather” live for the first time on Saturday night in Fortaleza, Brazil. The track is a deep cut from their 1993 covers album ‘The Spaghetti Incident?’.

The song’s lineage is a piece of punk history. Sex Pistols members Steve Jones and Paul Cook wrote it and gave it to The Runaways for a 1978 album. Jones and Cook later recorded their own version after the Pistols’ breakup. Guns N’ Roses’ cover has sat on their album for over thirty years without a live airing until now.

The performance in Brazil moves the song from a studio curio to a live setlist entry. It highlights the band’s continued mining of their own catalog for surprises, focusing on a track that connects glam punk’s legacy to their hard rock foundation.
