Jay Bryant Reportedly Negotiating Guilty Plea in Jam Master Jay Murder Case

One of the three men charged in the 2002 killing of the Run-DMC DJ is in talks with prosecutors to change his plea, according to court filings.

Jay Bryant, indicted in 2023 for the 2002 murder of Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay, is reportedly negotiating a guilty plea. Court documents filed this week show his lawyers and federal prosecutors are discussing a deal.

The specific terms of the potential agreement, or what Bryant would admit to, remain unclear. His trial, originally scheduled for May 4, has been postponed. The Associated Press notes the plea change is not yet final, leaving room for Bryant to maintain his not guilty plea.

Bryant is one of three men charged in the long-unsolved killing of the influential hip-hop DJ. The development marks a significant turn in a case that has remained a pivotal, unresolved chapter in music history for over two decades.
