The NFL and Apple Music confirmed JAY-Z as the headliner of the Super Bowl LXI halftime show during Monday Night Football, days after reports of the booking circulated in the press. The game is set for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and will air on ESPN, ABC and ESPN Deportes, with streaming on Disney+.
The announcement carries a structural oddity worth naming. Since 2019, Roc Nation, the entertainment company JAY-Z founded, has been responsible for booking the Super Bowl halftime show and other major NFL music events. For 2027, that process reportedly landed on its own principal. Puck News reported that Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus were also considered before JAY-Z settled on himself.
It will be his first time performing on the halftime stage, which is itself a strange fact for an artist whose catalogue has been treated as canon for a quarter century. The booking follows a run of stadium concerts in 2026 tied to two anniversaries, the 30th of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th of The Blueprint. Those shows established the scale of demand. The halftime slot establishes something else, which is the reach of the machinery around him.
Whether the NFL and Roc Nation address the arrangement publicly is a separate question from whether the performance works. Both will be judged in February, on the same field.
