The London club figure channels peak-time energy into five new tracks for the label co-founded by The 1975’s George Daniel, with lead single ‘Limousine’ out now.
Josh Caffé will release a new EP, ‘The Velvet Hour,’ on July 17th via dh2, the label run by The 1975’s George Daniel. The five-track project draws on the revelatory energy of late-night sets, the kind Caffé has honed during his Love Child residency at fabric and in peak-time slots at Panorama Bar and Horst Festival.
Lead single ‘Limousine’ is out now. Co-produced with Quinn Whalley of Paranoid London, with arrangement contributions from Daniel and a mixdown by Margot Broom, the track pushes a sleek, propulsive synth line from the proto-techno of Cybotron toward a distinctly London club sound. Caffé says the song addresses infidelity, but its title points to something symbolic: “The limousine represents luxury, excess, and that kind of detached lifestyle, but it also becomes a space where the character is forced to reflect on his actions and think about what he stands to lose if the relationship finally falls apart.”
Caffé has long moved between music and fashion, with ties to Versace and Vivienne Westwood. His work on ‘The Velvet Hour’ channels the immediacy of the dancefloor. He describes that window as “where you can really experiment sonically and when you’re locked in with the crowd, the connection can feel primal, seductive and playful all at once.” The release marks his first for dh2, placing his raw club sensibility alongside the label’s growing catalogue.
