The Strokes frontman expanded on the political messaging from the band’s Coachella set during a new podcast appearance.
Julian Casablancas has elaborated on the political stance previewed during The Strokes’ Coachella performance. In a newly released episode of the podcast SubwayTakes, the singer offered pointed criticism of American Zionists.
When asked for his most controversial take, Casablancas stated, “American Zionists get the benefits of white privileged people but talk like they are Black people during slavery.” He preemptively addressed potential counterarguments referencing the October 7th attacks, drawing parallels to violent Native American and slave rebellions as historical context for his view.
The comments follow the band’s weekend Coachella set, which concluded with a video condemning U.S. actions in Iran and Gaza. Casablancas’s direct engagement on the podcast moves the statement from a staged visual to a spoken interview, framing it as a personal position.
