The Bloomington shoegaze quartet details the second single from Great Lake, out September 18 via Angel Tapes/Fire Talk.
Just Penelope have shared “Sister,” the second preview from their upcoming EP Great Lake. The Bloomington shoegaze quartet will release the project on September 18 through Angel Tapes/Fire Talk, following the earlier single “After.”
“Sister” stays close to the band’s established sound: melodic, hazy, and built around layers that shift between restraint and release. The group describes the track as “a story of the ingenuous feeling of love and the swiftness to push things aside after being wronged.” That tension gives the song a sharper emotional edge than its dreamy surface might suggest.
Just Penelope have a way of pulling drama and dynamics from a well-worn genre without sounding derivative. On “Sister,” the gauze never quite obscures the hurt underneath.
