Maren Wade Seeks Injunction Against Taylor Swift’s ‘Showgirl’ Merchandise

The Las Vegas performer behind ‘Confessions of a Showgirl’ has asked a court to halt sales of Swift’s related merchandise while a trademark lawsuit proceeds.

Maren Wade, a Las Vegas performer and writer, has filed for a preliminary injunction to stop Taylor Swift from selling merchandise labeled ‘The Life of a Showgirl’. The motion is part of a trademark infringement lawsuit Wade filed in late March.

Wade argues the Swift merchandise creates consumer confusion and harms her own brand, which is built around the federally registered ‘Confessions of a Showgirl’ trademark. Her brand originated from a 2014 newspaper column and expanded into live shows, a book, and a podcast.

The legal filing states that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had previously refused a Swift-related trademark application for the phrase. The request aims to block sales of items like drink tumblers and cosmetic brushes while the case moves forward in federal court.
