The Time frontman posted “It’s A No For Me” on Instagram, puncturing the event’s already odd lineup.
The lineup for the Great American State Fair, a July gathering on the National Mall tied to Donald Trump’s political operation, was never exactly credible. But on Tuesday, just hours after organizers listed Morris Day & The Time as performers, the Minneapolis funk veteran made it clear he wanted nothing to do with it.
Day posted an image on Instagram with the text: “Contrary to rumor, Morris Day & The Time will not be performing at The ‘Great American State Farm.’” The caption below read, “It’s A No For Me.” No further explanation, no softening. The withdrawal was abrupt and total.
The fair’s bill still includes Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Bret Michaels, and Flo Rida—names that suggest a very specific definition of American greatness. Whether they stay on remains to be seen. But Day’s rejection punctures the effort in its first hours, underlining how quickly this kind of booking can unravel when artists take a closer look.
