Tinariwen Announce 2027 Australian and New Zealand Tour

Tinariwen will return to Australia and New Zealand in early 2027, marking a rare southern-hemisphere run for the Saharan collective. The announced itinerary covers seven stops across February and March, opening in Hobart and moving through Sydney, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Adelaide and Melbourne before crossing to Taranaki.

The routing bypasses New Zealand’s largest city in favour of the North Island’s west coast, a choice that suggests a deliberate, venue-driven approach rather than standard market coverage. For a group whose live identity depends on sustained atmosphere and collective interplay, that attention to setting matters.

Tinariwen’s music carries a specific history. Formed in the refugee camps and exile networks of the Tuareg people, the band built its sound from electric guitars, call-and-response vocals and rhythms tied to Saharan tradition. That background remains present in performance, even decades into an international career that has moved far beyond its origins.
