Tomahawk Play First Show in 13 Years, Tour with Melvins

Tomahawk ended a 13-year live absence Friday night at Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl. Mike Patton, guitarist Duane Denison, bassist Kevin Rutmanis, and drummer John Stanier focused the set on Tonic Immobility, the 2021 album they had never toured behind. The pandemic scrapped those plans, and a scheduled return at last year’s canceled Sick New World festival never happened.

The band played through new material, revisited their cover of Duane Eddy’s “Stalkin’,” and closed with “God Hates A Coward” from their 2001 debut. Nothing from 2007’s Anonymous made the cut.

They’re now on a co-headlining US run with the Melvins—their 2003 tourmates and Ipecac labelmates—under the sardonic title A Huge Waste Of Your Time And Money Tour. Dates extend through mid-August. After that, Patton turns to Faith No More, who will play their first shows in over a decade in 2027.
