The Mötley Crüe drummer revives his 2005 solo album with a revised edition and a newly added single.
Tommy Lee has released “Stupid World,” a new single and video that will appear on Tommyland Rides Again, a retooled version of his 2005 solo record Tommyland: The Ride. The song’s title is blunt, almost deadpan, and it lands at a moment when that sentiment doesn’t need much explaining.
Lee’s original Tommyland was a scattershot affair, part pop-rock and part reality-show soundtrack, arriving in the middle of Mötley Crüe’s messy mid-2000s. It never really stuck. Revisiting it now, with the benefit of distance, he has added a track that sounds like a shrug at the state of things. The video is out, and the music carries a straightforward rock energy that reads less like a comeback than a footnote being corrected.
There is no grand narrative here, just a drummer with a long track record picking up an old thread and tying it off differently. The revised album suggests Lee sees something in this material worth reclaiming. Whether it connects beyond completists is another matter, but the title alone gives it a certain accidental resonance.
